Early Life and Naval Career
Gunichi Mikawa(August 29, 1888 - February 25, 1981) was a distinguished Japanese admiral who served in the Imperial Japanese Navy.
He was born on August 29, 1888, and entered the navy as a midshipman on July 18, 1910.
Throughout his career, Mikawa held various positions on surface ships. He completed torpedo and artillery courses in 1914 and graduated from the Naval War College in 1917.
From 1918 to 1920, he served as part of a diplomatic mission to France.
Senior Command and Advisorship
In 1920, Mikawa became the chief navigational officer on several cruisers. Later, he served as an advisor to Admiral Kato Hiroharu in 1926 and to Admiral Takabe Takeo in 1927-28.
From February 7, 1930, to December 1, 1930, he was appointed naval attaché in France.
